A UNIQUE COMMUNITY BARGE: OFFICIAL LAUNCH CEREMONY AT THORNE CANALSIDE, THURSDAY APRIL 28 th. AT 5:00 p.m.
Our new boat, named ‘Waterstart’ was officially launched at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28th on the canalside at Louis & Joshua's boat-yard in Thorne. The Waterstart boat was ceremoniously commisioned by Cllr. Richard Walker, Town Mayor of Thorne, Ian Clayton of Yorkshire Television’s My Yorkshire and Peter McNestery from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY OF THE PRINCESS ROYAL PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AT THORNE CANALSIDE, WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 12th. AT 10:00 a.m.
In The Coalfield Regeneration Trust’s latest funding round, the Waterstart project has been awarded a grant of £170,821 to contribute towards operating costs. This follows a grant of £210,663 made last year to help pay for a new barge, Waterstart. Here the barge is shown taking part in the town’s official opening of the pedestrian bridge across the canal, which is being performed by HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.
FESTIVALS
The ‘Waterstart’ boat, staffed with a skipper and crew will be attending both Stainforth Waterside Festival and Thorne Summer Festival this year, offering short cruises and exciting demonstrations and activities.
